Automatic gates are among the most common and popular gate designs. Such gates envisage simple control, convenient operation, and long service life. Gates with automation are used for garages in suburban areas; they are installed on the territories of industrial buildings, warehouses, logistics complexes, restricted-access facilities, inside industrial premises, car service stations, malls, and technical centers.

Features of automatic gates

The advantages of automatic gates include a wide range of mechanisms and the possibility of installation on sites with confined territory. The opening mechanism is selected depending on the design and type of gate. Automatic drives can be of crank-rod, screw-gear, gear-wheel, or chain types. The installation of a security system makes the use of the gate safe. If during the movement, the leaves come into contact with an obstacle, then the mechanism stops the movement and the gate leaves go in the opposite direction. In the case of a power outage, the gate can be opened or closed using a manual drive.

Materials

A variety of materials are used for the manufacture of gate leaves, e.g. wood, corrugated sheets, and aluminum shapes. The most common options include aluminum shapes:

• Foam-filled. Aluminum sheet is used for the manufacture of three-layer panels; polyurethane foam is used as a filler. Such gates envisage strength, good thermal and noise insulation, and low weight as well.
• Extruded. Gates made of extruded shapes are characterized by such qualities as burglar resistance, strength, and durability.
• Perforated. The perforated metal-shaped mesh allows light and air to pass through while providing effective protection of the premises.

Types of designs

Gates with automatic drive and remote control can be:

• Swing-type. The gate consists of a frame and two leaves that open inwards or outwards. This is the simplest and most reliable design that works flawlessly regardless of the time of year and air temperature. The disadvantages of swing-type gates include the fact that they require a lot of space to open. In the open position, the leaves have a high wind resistance and block the driver's view.
• Sliding. Sliding models consist of a frame and a leaf that slides to the sides and opens the full width of the passage. This type of gate allows for saving space, i.e. the leaf in the open position does not occupy space either inside or outside the garage or plot. The types of sliding gate design are rail-type, suspended, and cantilever-type.
• Sectional. This type of gate consists of a leaf and two L-shaped guides. The leaf consists of separate strips interconnected by pin joints or hinges. The guides are rigidly secured in the opening, and their horizontal part is attached to the ceiling inside the garage. When the gate is opened, the leaf moves along the guides with the help of running rollers and "goes" under the ceiling.
• Lifting and turning. The main elements of the gate design are a frame structure, a hinge-lever mechanism, and a solid rigid leaf. When the gate opens, the leaf performs two movements, i.e. lifting and turning. In the open position, the gate leaf is located horizontally under the ceiling. The advantages of lifting gates are ergonomics and simple and reliable design.
